DPC Summit Scholarship

The AAFP Foundation has partnered with the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, the DPC Alliance, and the Family Medicine Education Consortium to create the Direct Primary Care (DPC) Summit Medical Student and Resident Scholarship Fund.  

The DPC Summit Scholarship Fund focuses on inspiring the future physician workforce by exposing them to DPC, an innovative practice model.

All scholarships are made possible by the donations of dpc physicians across the country.

Medical Students & Residents are invited to apply for these scholarships.

Eligibility and Guidelines 

Scholarship Information

  • The number of scholarships varies depending on the funding level and the number of applicants.
  • Scholarship recipients are selected by a panel of judges from the DPC Summit planning committee.
  • The $600 scholarship is intended to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses (registration, travel, lodging, meals) for in-person registration.
  • Scholarship recipients will need to register for the event. The DPC Summit offers discount rates for medical students and registrants. You can register here
  • All scholarship checks are awarded at the event. You will need to register and handle all travel accommodations. If you are unable to attend the conference, your scholarship will be forfeited.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Membership Requirement: You must be a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), Family Medicine Education Consortium (FMEC), or DPC Alliance to apply. 
  • Attendance Requirement: Selected Scholars will be required to attend the entire 2024 DPC Summit (defined as arriving no later than noon on Friday, June 21, and leaving no earlier than noon on Sunday, June 23).

Applicants who wish to apply for this award should complete the online form that requests the following information:

6.    MEMBER ID from a host organization (AAFP, ACOFP, FMEC, DPC Alliance)
7.    Class Year
8.    School
9.    How did you learn about direct primary care and what do you hope to learn by attending the DPC Summit?
10.  What are your goals as a future physician and how will attending DPC Summit help you further achieve them? 
11.  What is something you found surprising or inspiring about direct primary care or family medicine?

Deadline and Notification

  • The deadline for the application is April 5, 2024, Midnight CT.
  • The selected participants will be notified via email by April 19, 2024.

Review Process

  • The applications will be reviewed and scored by the members of the DPC Summit Planning Committee. The applicants receiving the highest numeric scores will be chosen to receive the scholarship.
  • Every effort will be made to maintain a balance between the number of residents and the number of medical students.

Writing Tips

  • When writing your answers, keep in mind that numerous applications are received and reviewed by the judges.
  • Make your application stand out and try to avoid clichés. 
  • As the application is a chance for the judges to learn about you and your goals, you are encouraged to provide thoughtful and authentic answers. 

Dissemination of Funds

  • Checks will be distributed upon check-in at the registration booth at the DPC Summit. Each recipient must sign for the check, as well as complete a W-9 Form prior to receiving the check.
